Myopia, or nearsightedness, is becoming increasingly common, particularly among children. While myopia cannot currently be reversed, myopia control aims to slow its progression.
Our experts help patients and families understand available treatment approaches and participate in the management process over time.
Myopia Control Options
Depending on the individual patient, approaches may include:
Orthokeratology (Ortho-K): Specialized contact lenses worn overnight can temporarily reshape the cornea, helping provide clearer distance vision during the day.
Atropine Drops: Low-dose atropine may be used in children over a period of approximately 2–3 years, with the aim of slowing myopia progression. The drops are typically used at bedtime as directed.
Specialty Contact Lenses & Myopia Control Eyeglasses: Specialized lenses and eyeglasses may help slow the progression of myopia.
Why Myopia Control Matters
Slowing the progression of myopia may help reduce the risk of complications associated with higher levels of myopia, including conditions affecting the retina and other structures of the eye.
We work collaboratively with patients and families to explain available options and determine an appropriate approach.
